Christopher Mitchell

Christopher accepts briefs in all areas of law. 

Prior to coming to the bar in May 2016, Christopher was a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution Group at Herbert Smith Freehills. He has experience in a wide variety of complex and large scale commercial, insolvency, insurance, regulatory and pro bono matters in a range of courts and tribunals. 

Previously, Christopher spent five years as a prosecutor at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He worked on two cases related to the 1995 Srebrenica genocide: Prosecutor v Radovan Karadzic, the former president of the Bosnian Serb Republic; and Prosecutor v Popovic et al., a multi-accused case involving seven high-ranking Bosnian Serb military and police officers. Both cases resulted in convictions for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

Christopher is a sessional lecturer at Macquarie University and has convened courses in International Dispute Settlement and International Criminal Law. 

Christopher holds a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours (LLB Hons) from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Sydney.
