Danielle Forrester

Danielle has a broad practice in commercial, public and regulatory law, including competition and consumer law, administrative and constitutional law, civil penalty proceedings, energy and climate regulation, intellectual property, international law and arbitration. Danielle provides advice across a wide range of legal areas, and appears led and unled in trials, applications, appeals and arbitral proceedings.

Recent matters in which Danielle has appeared, or is appearing, include:

• Australian Competition and Consumer Commission v Microsoft Corporation in Federal Court consumer law proceedings (2025 – ongoing);
• Pearson v State of New South Wales and Minister for Planning and Public Spaces in Land and Environment Court judicial review proceedings (2025 – 2026; settled prior to hearing);
• Brickworks Limited v BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd in Federal Court competition law proceedings (settled prior to hearing in 2025);
• Electra Cables v Minister for Industry and Innovation in Federal Court judicial review proceedings concerning anti-dumping determinations (2024-2026);
• Minister for the Environment v GE Grid Australia in Federal Court civil penalty proceedings concerning synthetic greenhouse gas regulation (2024-2025);
• Australian News Channel Pty Ltd v lsentia Pty Ltd in Full Federal Court intellectual property proceedings (2025);
• Amana Community Services Pty Ltd and Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner in merits review proceedings concerning aged care regulation (2025); and
• Boral Resources (Vic) Pty Limited v Landfill Operations Pty Ltd in Supreme Court commercial list proceedings (settled prior to hearing in 2025).

Before coming to the Bar, Danielle was a solicitor at the Australian Government Solicitor, including in the Constitutional Litigation Unit, and was also Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth.  In the role of Counsel Assisting, Danielle appeared as junior counsel in the High Court and assisted with the drafting of advices provided by the Solicitor-General to government on a wide range of matters.
