
Elliot Hyde SC practises exclusively in commercial litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution. He is regularly retained in Australia’s most significant commercial disputes.
Elliot’s practice is focused on large commercial disputes arising from the financial services sector, major infrastructure and construction projects, corporate insolvency and restructuring, shareholder and oppression disputes, and complex contractual and equitable claims. He is frequently retained to develop and lead litigation strategy in matters involving significant factual, legal and expert issues, working closely with solicitors and teams of junior counsel.
He has extensive experience conducting lengthy commercial trials, appeals and arbitrations and is regularly briefed in technically demanding, high-value disputes. His experience includes some of Australia’s largest commercial matters, major corporate insolvency litigation, financial services disputes, securities and shareholder litigation, and complex commercial arbitrations. He has appeared in numerous reported decisions of the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, the New South Wales Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
Before being called to the Bar in 2005, Elliot practised as a solicitor with Deacons (now Norton Rose Fulbright) and MinterEllison, becoming a Senior Associate in commercial litigation in 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Business (Management) from the University of Technology Sydney, and a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney.
Elliot is an advocacy instructor for the New South Wales Bar Association and has served on Bar Association committees responsible for advocacy training, professional development and the Bar examinations. He has tutored and mentored numerous barristers throughout his career, many of whom have gone on to establish successful practices at the Bar.
