Nichola (Nic) Derrington is an experienced commercial counsel with a decade of experience at the Bar. Initially admitted to the Bar in Queensland, Nichola practices full time from Sydney at Banco Chambers and advises and appears unled in Courts and Tribunals throughout Australia. Her skill and experience are regularly acknowledged in industry guides to leading barristers in commercial law, insolvency law and transport law matters
Commercial disputes are a mainstay of Nichola’s practice, with a focus on commercial contract and equity, particularly in the resources sector and matters involving complex financial transactions. Her practice also extends to competition and consumer law matters, regulatory proceedings and investigations, corporations and insolvency law, tax law, and transport law, particularly admiralty and maritime law.
Nichola’s skill and experience are complemented by a Masters of Law (Hons I) from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons I) from the University of QLD. Prior to practice at the Bar Nichola was a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills and an Associate to the Hon Justice Dowsett in the Federal Court of Australia.
