Nicholas Bender SC has a broad-ranging, commercial practice and regularly appears in difficult, high-value cases.

He practises in all areas relating to commercial, corporate and financial disputes and is experienced in class actions, commissions and inquiries, and regulatory matters.

Nicholas is listed in Chambers & Partners (Global), where he has been described as “fantastically diligent with an excellent brain” and “recognised for his handling of high-value commercial, corporate and insolvency matters”. He has consistently been listed in Doyle’s Guide and in Best Lawyers Australia for many years.

Major recent engagements include: the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion (for seven peak Jewish communal bodies); Greensill Bank v IAG (for Greensill Bank in a complex set of claims having an aggregate value of $4 billion); INPEX v Akzo Nobel (for Akzo Nobel defending a $4.5 billion claim in connection with the Ichthys LNG Project); AUSTRAC v The Star (for The Star in connection with AML/CTF contraventions); and ASIC v Caddick (as contradictor appointed by the Court as a result of Melissa Caddick’s disappearance).

Nicholas has previously been a Visiting Fellow at both the University of New South Wales and University College London where he taught private international law and international arbitration.
